Levine started out his career writing screenplays for films, but soon gravitated towards the video game industry. The biggest reason for his return to working on movies is his passion for Logan’s Run as a cult classic.
The film is based on the 1967 book by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, about a dystopian society set in the future, in which all people must be willingly executed at age 21 as a means of population control. Those who try to escape their fate are called “runners.” The original 1976, Michael Anderson-directed, film starred Michael York as Logan 5. The plot was changed slightly as the maximum age became 30 and the setting is post-apocalyptic earth where all humans live inside a huge domed city to “protect” them from the harsh outside world.
Although Levine is just beginning to spend time on the project, he will still be able to work on video games in the meantime. At the moment, Irrational Studios is working on DLC for Bioshock Infinite, but have been quiet on what it will exactly entail.
Levine is a great choice to breathe life into what was otherwise a dying project, and if his games are anything to judge by, he will be doing the book justice with his screenplay.
